Our 2017 Tour concentrated on the post-war suburb of Alta Vista, with four houses being showcased, and on Rockcliffe, which featured two fabulous gardens.
Alta Vista - French Antiques in a Modern Setting
On a cul-de-sac near Smyth Road and Alta Vista
This new-build, designed by Gord Weima in 1999, sits on an acre lot with many mature trees, an in-ground pool and adjoining pergola. Winding stone pathways showcase mature and colourful plants, with a small waterfall trickling into a koi pond. The house is a two-storey, four-bedroom, with a curved staircase leading off a majestic entry hall. The house also boasts a large, step-down living room, a dining room that can seat 12 at an antique table and a family room with adjoining book-lined study.
Urban Retreat
South on Alta Vista
This award-winning design by Wheeler and Associates in 1994, has it all. It sports an attached "granny flat", a recently enlarged front porch, and a hot tub in the back garden protected by a cedar overhang. The three generational multi-talented family will offer live music including duets on two pianos in the living room. Check the program booklet for times. Original art will be on display in both the main house and granny flat.

Continuing south on Alta Vista
A few years ago, Cada Consruction took over a problematic reno and transformed a vintage dwelling into a light and airy home with all the bells and whistles, including a magnificent wine-room in the basement. The treed lot changes over the seasons to provide an ever delightful setting.
Bungalow Transformed
Off "Hospital Row" at Smyth
This house looks like a 1960’s bungalow from the outside, but it has been completely renovated within. The tiling in the two bathrooms is up-to-the-minute, and is matched in quality by the detailing of the open-concept kitchen and living room.

Be sure to visit the site the fund-raising Bake Sale at Rideau Park church, where you can enjoy free lemonade or water, buy home-made baking and purchase ticket booklets. Here, you may also be able to enjoy the music of the Kiwanis IODE prize winner in the Senior Violin category. Stay tuned.

Two garden designers/landscapers - Afsoon Kayvani and Robert Miller – worked on these two beautiful gardens and were present at 333 Manor Avenue to answer questions and to explain the design.
