Welcome to Laurentian

Serving Ottawa since 1906

What We Do

IODE Laurentian organizes several fundraisers each year including such activities as house and garden tours, street festivals, road trip and e-scavenger hunts, garage sales, theatre benefit nights and Gananoque theatre tours.

In addition to these primary sources of revenue, other funds are raised through membership fees, raffles, greeting card sales, and whatever other ad hoc ideas our members’ creative minds come up with!

In keeping with the mandate of IODE Canada, we use the funds we raise in three areas:

  • Service: We provide funds to help local organizations serving people in need, especially youth at risk
  • Education: We endow scholarships and bursaries, including three at Carleton University and Algonquin College, fund an additional bursary annually at Banff Avenue Community House, and provide books and supplies to two Indigenous classrooms in Cat Lake, Ontario
  • Citizenship: We participate in the National Remembrance Day events and offer receptions at citizenship ceremonies upon request.

Some additional funds are allocated to IODE Canada and IODE Ontario for national and provincial initiatives.

Our Funding Policy for Local Projects

In accordance with IODE Canada’s Primary Chapter Regulations, funds donated by IODE Laurentian to another non-profit organization for local projects: (a) must be undertaken by a registered charity or other qualified donee recognized by the Canada Revenue Agency; (b) may not be used for ongoing operating expenses; (c) should be designated for a specific purpose (eg. furnishing a room, purchasing equipment or furnishing a library); and (d) should be appropriately acknowledged. Our current priority is youth at risk.
